Pillow suggestions.

Chad (Sticks blog/youtube) uses a combo of an air pillow (large exped UL) and a large Goosefeet down pillow case. This is what I am tempted to give a go next if I get round to it. I have a Goosefeet case but it's too small.

Those Alpkit would do job if they had larger options. The largest is still too small for me though personally at 320 x 250.
Massdrop recently had Goosefeet cases sized to fit the Klymit Pillow X. If you're interested it could be worth putting in a request.

I just rollup the rucksack with whatever is inside it and put my towel on top.

Backpack is already under my legs... I also used to stuff gear like rain jacket into a stuffbag with some extra clothes but all this kit has shrunk and shrunk over the years - my storm jacket is now the size of a tennis ball, wind jacket even smaller, and top quality down (when not wearing it already as part of a "sleep system") compresses extremely well. Fleece makes a good cushion too but again, my fleece is mainly for camp and night use. All this is not a big deal for an overnighter but on longer trips, my first priority is carrying (nice!!!) food for 6 or 7 days. My valveless inflatable pillow is mainly for those nights when other pillow substitute options are exhausted.

Personally I like the naturehike one, nice soft material and a good size.

Prior to that I was using a poundland camping pillow. 40g and you guessed it, £1
Perfectly comfy Andi would still be using it if the naturehike was not such a bargain.

Oh, and the naturehike comes in orange....

You're right and I have run into the same issue on some recent trips. Boots and food don't make the most comfy pillow. The 11g re-inflatable silvery balloon in a stuffsack idea seems good for the weight, I'll give that a go.

I tried the nature hike on a recent trip but I found it too big/small depending on whether it was on or off an inflatable pad (exped synmat). Very well made for £4 delivered and is probably perfect for a thinner mat like a Ridgerest.

I've tried down filled pillows and pillow stuff sacks (I ripped off Goosefeet for the stuff sack and had their original pillow) but found them awful. The whole point of the down is its compression characteristics so just went flat and damp. A similar synthetic stuff sack worked better.

I have a Nemo Filo and last trip I took a large pillow case with me and pulled it over the top of the sleep mat then pushed the pillow up in side the pillow case....pillow never moved all night and was very comfy. Down side is that the Nemo doesn't pack all that small but for me it's a fair price to pay for a comfy sleep :)

I tried various pillows but fav current choice is my STS Aeros Ultralight in medium weighs 60g. Stuff this inside a thermal fleece lined buff. Stuff this in the sleeping bag hood and I find it stays in place all night..

+1 for the bag in a buff as a pillow - that fleecy covering makes quite a comfort difference.

Am I the only person who takes what am wearing put them in a plastic bag if wet, then into the stuff sac that the spare base layer (sleeping layer) was kept in to use as a pillow?

I just dont carry enough spare clothes to make a comfortable pillow, i need to keep my insulated jacket nearby in case i get the chills through the night (occasionally do).

Not spare clothes, what I take off I use, the base layer in the stuff sac I sleep in. I find this comfy enough for my liking.

no padstowe your not alone---i am a pillow bodger---i don t worry about the extra wieght of a pillow but its an extra "thing" and i am trying to be more of a "thing" minimalist----you know the tent photos ----rucksac looks like it has exploded and whole floor of tent is littered with "things"

I know exactly what you mean, minimalism is great, I've almost got the hang of it for backpacking, wish I had for day-to-day life...

My partner bought a flannel pillow from Go Outdoors at the weekend, not super light, but looks useful - http://m.gooutdoors.co.uk/freedom-trail-flannel-pillow-p360834

I got my wife to get one for me whan she went into Stockport today. Weight is 78g so about the same as the S2S Aeros Premium pillow.

Much better for me though as I sleep in the 'recovery' position and the Aeros is much too thick if it's blown up and much to squidgy if it's only part inflated.

Did that for quite a few yrs , now using an exped air pillow ( medium) I think .
I use my rab generator smock to keep it in place on matt ... slide it over top of matt - zipped up , then slide inflated air pillow in ... works a treat

I quite like the cheap, inflatable, U-shaped things you get in Poundland. For lightweight, relative comfort, that is.

Only trouble is they seem to start leaking after not many uses...

I was using the Term-o-Rest staff sack pillow with clothes inside recently which is nice, but I have to admit I slept better after I got the Exped Air Pillow, it sits really nice into the hood part of my Rab sleeping bag.
