Meindl Journey Mid GTX

Has anyone tried Meindl Journey Mid GTX. I'm looking for something a bit more supportive that trail shoes to replace my leaking Salomon Quest 4s.

I have short listed them following @Teepee 's mention of how wide and comfortable Meindl comfort fit are.

I wouldn't over look the salewa mtn trainer lite gtx mid. Very light for a technical boot that you could run (albeit at a steady pace) scramble, climb and wade.
Pretty wide and a secure heel fit.

Is the sole fairly flexible in those. I thought Altberg Tetheras were going to replace my Salomon Quests but they are just far too stiff.

Flexible in the mid/forefoot.to.run forefoot, stiff enough toe end to climb /scramble.
I've a couple of days off and need to do a couple of videos.
I'll give you a heads up though. I returned two pairs after a very wet day in them. They foamed at the sole but didn't leak.
It could have been a random fault with my particular size and color. The fit and comfort pushed me to go third time lucky and I'm. Glad I did. I like them which is unusual for. Me with a membrane boot.

Have had the meindl x-so 70 mid gtx for 2 or 3 years, very similar, i like them, v comfy, very waterproof the 1st year or so, but they did get battered in that period, i think i went to far, to often into peat bogs without washing them after and its ended them as a waterproof option, still use them for summer boots. I'dd buy them again, but ive got a lot (far to much and not enough walking) of footwear to get through just now, so it wont be for a while

Now then @Charlie83 I know you try a lot of boots. What I want is something relatively light weight, with a big toe box and waterproof. They need to be not too stiff in the sole but need to be supporting because I have arthritis in my big toe joint. Does anything you've tried fit that bill?

The Salomon Quest 4d 3s fit perfectly and have the right amount of support. They are old and have done many miles without the sole wearing much but as I've said they are not waterproof. I would buy another pair but they have changed them and I suspect the will have made them narrower having had that happen with other Salomons I've liked. So I was thinking maybe try some mids that are a bit lighter. The main multi day I have planned for this year is the TGO or something similar as an alternative if that is cancelled or I'd feel about as welcome as someone wearing a Rangers shirt in Bar 67, if I came up to do the TGOC.

With that in mind is there something you'd recommend having a look at?

My Meindl Philldelphia's have a very similar fit to New balance 2E (I find NB 2E a very reliable fit) if that's any help.

I think I've got wide feet, I certainly like wider fits, Asolo for etc I can barely get my feet in. I found the Salomon Quest 4d extremely comfy initially (there's a fousty pair in my shed, thrown there in disgust:bored:). But I grew to hate them pretty quickly (for loads of reasons I've probably mentioned before) their waterproofness lasted about 20 minutes.

The SO 90s, Bhutans or adidas terrex mids are my choice (depends on mood). The Adidas is the best for grip (actually fantastic grip) and weight (958g pair of 10s or 10.5s), quite stiff/robust.

The SO90s are the best for lightweight comfort (1017g), to me they are actually more trainer comfort/flexible than Adidas the trainer champs.

But I wear the Bhutans the most:D probably because I'm more used to a heavier leather boot.

And don't finish on the east coast between Stoney and Aberdeen wearing one of "them" t shirts... we will hunt you down

Am I the only one who likes the Salomon X Ultras? They seem to fit me, but as been often quoted, we all have different feet...

I ordered a pair of X-ultra wide shoes and they were narrower than a pair I have of standard fit. The Quest 4ds are the only Salomons that fit me right.

I've ordered a pair of Salewa Mountain Trainer Lite's from Amazon £159 with free delivery and free returns. I went for these on the basis of recommendations and reading reviews. I am a bit concerned that they might not be wide enough in the toe box so the free returns gives me the option of trying them on with no financial risk. I'll let you know how I get on when they come.

The Salewas arrived today and I've just printed the returns label. Too narrow in the toe area for me. This is a shame because I really like the weight, look and degree of rigidity. Back to the drawing board.

Just wondering if you might have previously tried a pair of Mammut Ducan Mid or High GTX?

I'm trying to replace some leaky Salomon Comet 3D. And I'm thinking of trying the Mammut's when funds allow.

Already tried a pair of Asolo Greenwood. Nice boots but too narrow in the mid and forefoot for me. Will be following this thread with interest to see how you get on:thumbsup:.

I love the Salomon x ultras but 3 pairs of the mid gtx leaked on me last year so that was the end for me. Warranty very good but just not worth the hassle. 2 pairs lasted less than 100k. I will use unlined but need to find a decent light lined pair-inov8 g400 mids if I can find some in stock!

Tethera's are surprisingly stiff for a 3 season boot claiming to be B0. I do rather like them though and they work fine with my strap on grivel g10`s.

I find then quite tiring, they make me walk a bit stiff legged. I wonder if I persevered would they ease up a bit.

The Meindl Journey Mid GTX are going to have to go back just too sloppy. I think I'll wait until they re-open and go over and get fitted for something.
