Decathlon recommendations

The problem with decathlon trousers is the length, they don't do any long lengths and so they only fit 'average' people, which is rubbish

Tops etc are better as sleeve length varies quite a lot

I wish I had got 2 forclaz 100 walking poles. 120cm ball-bearing locks about 190. £4.99 each, would be good for the faux-star. Ultralight ultra cheap with a bit of polycro.
The description of what they are suitable for is a bit odd. "Designed for occasional hiking on flat and landscaped ground: path, trails, undergrowth."

well i own at least 4 pairs of decathlon trousers and they are indeed long in the leg.

it can be quite confusing looking online as there's no continuity with how they size. sometimes L some times l/xl with no sizing chart, leg lengths given- other times not!

i tend to look online see if they have 3 or 4 things in stock at a branch im passing when heading up north and then pop in. as i also have freaky long arms i normally get 1 thing out of 4 i was looking at.

Can you be more specific Paul? The ones I've seen in the shop have all been too short (I live in London and have been to a few, including the Surrey Quays one, also have passed through a couple in france)

My trousers are haglofs in the long length, I find they fit really nicely. I now have 4 pairs so don't really need anymore, but if there were recommendations for some in particularly I'd definitely check them out. I take a 34in inside leg trouser, 33in is always too short

I even asked their customer service for some help in selecting and they were rather useless!

i bought these last year in a 34inch leg

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sh500-x-warm-m-stretch-pant-id_8493789.html

really good winter trouser, i'll be getting another pair in the new year when i head up to scotland as i managed to stick the ice axe point through my current ones.

and these around 4 years ago, i think these are an updated version

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sh500-m-x-warm-tr-dark-grey-id_8503823.html

other stuff i bought isn't listed anymore as they change the styles every year or so.

but a quick look and i saw these in 34inch leg.

oh i do have a 36 inch waist....

Ah, I'm between a 32 and a 34 inch waist, medium Haglofs fits nicely

i'll check out those trousers, thanks

EDIT - annoying, the 32 and 34 inch waists are 33in length, the 36 waist is 34 length

On what chart does it say that as you get taller you get wider, and vice versa? Some problem with Montane trousers, it's ridiculous

I seem to be their body model, as, apart from gloves (which are too narrow and have long fingers), all their clothing fits me perfectly.

You're just the wrong shape...

Just got a pair of Water Shoes from Decathlon. £9.99 and 360g (size 46/47), for river crossings etc. They seem OK!

360g :banghead: a pair of inov8 terraclaw size 12 are only marginally heavier and are less fuss. ;)

I'll see how I get on with these. I'm firmly in the 'boot camp' I'm afraid (currently 750g per boot), so these will only be carried for occasional use in water and possibly at camp. Admittedly 360g is a lot for that, but I was recommended Vivo Ultras which cost a lot more and are heavier (206g per shoe size 43 - the original Vivos were much lighter I believe). There are lighter 'beach shoes' out there, but they seem too flimsy. I can see the benefits of a light do-it-all trail shoe, but, along with things like short trousers and short sleeves (and wet feet and blisters), I've yet to embrace them. Just me...

Ive just bought a Quencha MH500 Mountain Hiking fleece.
215g £9.99 I bought size XL but I'd say it is a size small and fits like a large would fit me. Sleeves seem quite long. Perfect to wear under a wind shirt or in sleeping bag. Colour is a lot darker than the pic I think it will have a good weight to warmth ratio because of the structure. not sure how durable it is going to turn out but for me a fleece is for life, not just for Christmas.

Another good £10 worth Quechua MH100 Men's Mountain Hiking Shorts If I wear shorts they are usually running shorts but I wanted some with pockets.
I got size XL which I would say is about 37" waist (they are slightly tighter than M&S 38" chinos). The main material is similar to the not black bits of Montane Terra pants. They also have a stretchy material panel at the top of the backside. About 140g

I have had the mid-price decathlon fleeces and found them pretty much indestructible and better featured than ones for many more £.
I still have an orange one somewhere

My work place is now conveniently located 5 minutes from a Decathlon store.

Can anyone provide recommendations on things they have bought which they rate as good or bad?

Cheers

My last week of working near a Decathlon store so if anyone has any good buys in the last year or so please can you shout up?

I seem to recall a post for waterproof mitts?...

This is what I'm going to do next time I visit my Son in Sheffield.

Buy another one of these MH500 Mountain Hiking fleece and one of these down jackets.

Also when you're in there have a look at the "NABAIJI Microfibre Towels". I have one that I've cut into 40cm x 40 cm squares and use it as a "face cloth" along with one a bit bigger. If you get a chance to have a shower you can get fully dry with the two of them. Use the smaller one to mop off the water and the bigger one to completely dry. Useful for drying feet off at the end of the day as well.

Huh sounds like their sizing is all over the place then. I have small hands and found the sizing good, i just wear liners underneath though. Ive heard this on decathlon before, same item random sizing.

That's interesting. I normally wear size L gloves and have both size M/L and XL/2XL, the former is a great fit over thick liner gloves (Rab Power Stretch Pro Contact Gloves in size L) while the latter has room to spare with glove and fleece mittens.

I believe Decathlon is like Ikea: same product made by a number of suppliers with very slight differences.

I just came out of Brighton Decathlon. Wow, so rubbish service. I was after some gas and flip flops. I was told there flip flops are on certain area, but they weren’t and then told they were out of stock. I struggled to get their wifi working and found out online there were 4 pairs in stock. Showed this to sales person and was taken for a walk only to be told they must be out. So I asked for gas cartridges. No stock, you have to order online. I told them it says online that they are only available in-store, yet he insisted to order. So I walked out empty handed. Off to Cotswold for some gas.
