Shelter News - a thread for new shelter talk

I made a stuff sack out of .34 cuben. The second time I was stuffing something into it, I put four of the fingers holding the sack straight through it, and the balls of the fingers (is that the right term?), not the nails. I patched it and learned to be more careful with it but I really don't see it as a suitable material for a mainstream fly.
As for .51 for a groundsheet...

That's just dim, especially as all grades seem to cost the same. Guess its a homiglation special type to get a record? Stupid lite.
That said I just got some w/p trousers, 90g for a size xl. They'll be a good compliment to my 90g wp jacket, for taking on sunny trips.

Indeed - and the weight difference between .51 and .72 is also marginal. Even if you don't hole one, isn't lifespan difference worth a few extra $?

Can't see properly on my phone, is it with zips or magnets?

So somewhat narrower than the Stratospire 2. Actually I might prefer that, but I'm still waiting to see what Dan Durston comes up with ;).

It'll stand up alright while its new but wear much quicker than 0.72oz... False economy IMO

Is there a rumour or more that he will do his as a 2person and/or in cuben ?
Dan has said he's working on a 2 person tent. I doubt that the first iteration will be in cuben though.
I like the weight and non-stretch of cuben but our Duplex is getting on for 100 nightst and the material is noticeably less smooth and shiny - it's getting a kind of papery effect. Not that I would rule out buying cuben again, but a shorter life span needs factoring into the equation.

114cms width - too narrow for 2 adults, IMHO.
I had a TN Solar 2.2 which at 124cm wide was brilliant for the kids, but became too narrow as they turned into teenagers.
And too wide for solo - 'shrugs shoulders'
Maybe the 135 cm width of cuben fiber makes it uneconomic to make it any wider.

those 114cm are all usable because the inner walls there are vertical. A lot of tents slope inward so you lose several centimetres at the sleeping bag level. Some in fact give you the corner to corner size often not corresponding to the middle.
It takes 1 wide and 1 standard mat.
Compare the 102 cm SS1 floor

with the one on the 124cm Solar

If anything it will be the other way.
The 0.72 version has more Dyneema in it but that is sandwiched inside the Mylar layers so it does not add to the abrasion resistance at all.
The difference between .5 and .7 is in tear strength not abrasion resistance.
