i use my phone. great reception and can play through the speaker. Many smart phones have an FM tuner so might be worth a check. Very low power use too

Be aware that some countries are starting to phase out FM in favour of DAB. Norway for example is moving to DAB for all it's radio.

I've got a mobile DAB - I don't use it anymore as the signal was too patchy; this might have changed though.

DAB is a lot heavier on battery use than analogue radio. I have a tiny SONY SRF-84 which is amazingly good at modulating weak signals and sips power from a single AAA battery. No speaker though.

Am well worth having if your as dull as me and a radio 4 listener. I've yet to find a mp3 player with a usable radio, they never seem to get signal. Best was my old Sony phone, but I do what I can to not use up phone battery so just download podcasts and use a cheap 16gig mp3 player with massive battery life now

I have an old Aiwa radio with speaker that runs on 2 AA batts and got fair reception in the Lakes. Weighs about 4oz though.

DM me if you'd like to have it.
