Have you got any homemade dehydrated recipes you'd like to share, whether it's breakfast, lunches, main meals or desserts, it would be good to build up a decent range of meals for members to try.

Ah porridge!
4 x tbs milled oats (Readybreck type)
2 x tbs milk powder
1 x tbs dried mixed fruit (The cheep stuff for fruit cakes works fine)
2 x tsp soft brown sugar.
pop it all in a pour and store and away you go.
Since my heart attack before Christmas, this is all I've had to eat for breakfast (Well most of the time).
If I need to vary it a little I add some nuts (Non salted type) or leave out the sugar and add honey.

This is stolen from the one pot wonders website, but iv tried it and it's a really nice drink!! Just make a ziplock bag full and use 3 spoons at a time.

½ cup sugar

½ cup

powdered milk

¼ cup powdered non-dairy creamer

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

3 tablespoons instant coffee granules

¼ teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

At home: combine all of the ingredients together. Store in an airtight container.

In camp: add 3 tablespoons of mix to ¾ cup boiling water. Stir and enjoy.

That sounds tasty, I could probably stomach that in the morning, plenty of calories too
Yeah its actually really nice, not too sweet or 'fake' banana taste. A really hearty portion too. It says to use 600ml of water but I found 500ml gives a better consistency when cozy cooking.

Mushroom Cheesy Porridge

  • 125g porridge oats
  • 25g dried porcini mushrooms
  • 1 stock cube
  • up to 50g of dried parmesan
  • dried onion & dried vegetables to taste, sun dried tomato works well

place in a 'boil in the bag' bag, and pack. To use, add 750ml of boiling water and stir for ten minutes or so. It's pretty palatable, and very energy rich. I tend to take a few tortillas to have with it.

(Boil a bags can be got from Lakeland - they're thicker than freezer bags and, if you roll the rim of them, you can make porridge in them and eat out of them)

I think the curried porridge was me!!! Basically I was on a trip and miscalculated rations and ended up with the last 2 days living on porridge. I had a little light my fire spice box with curry powder and other spices in so I just chucked em in!!! ............. Do not try unless very very hungry or very very bored of porridge. I actually really like porridge now and often add cinnamon, nutmeg, dried apple and banana, coconut and other berries depending on my taste.

I also like rice pudding so this is something you could try.

Quick cook boil in bag rice ( uncle bens or own brand type stuff)
Milk powder and sugar to suit taste.
Again I also add cinnamon or nutmeg etc

Wack in bag , wack in pot cozy, wack in water as per rice instructions for amount of rice use, I like it quite thick and creamy so use less water and more milk .....

Wack in mouth !!! Enjoy....

Good as a breaky or a pudding!

I'm just about to knock up some meals for next weekend, does minced Turkey needs a rinse after browning? I've always rinsed beef so I'm guessing it's the same?

Sweet red peppers
Green bell pepper
Pitted and sliced olives
Chestnut mushrooms
Button mushrooms
Great Scott Dried Country veg mix

Then take a Knorr chicken stock pot to add when it's rehydratiing time. It should be lush but I'll report back after next weekend :)

Well it's all in bubbling away for a while :)

I added a sliced frozen red chilli too for good measure but held back on the Tabasco for now. It's got a hell of a kick but some of that will go when I dehydrate.

I've done olives on their own before and they've been fine mate, just added them to other dishes like spag bol etc and they've rehydrated no bother. It's usually sliced mushrooms which have got me before, I think I've sliced them too thick and they take forever to dry in a stew type dish, I've gone mega thin this time so we'll see.
