Of course there is risk of anything happening.

I was stood watching a guy erect his cuben duomid using a Carbon fibre hiking pole (gossamer gear?). Handle up. It was totally windless, and it was on the penultimate night of a windy TGO. As he tightened a lineloc, the pole shattered, and the broken end went straight through the cuben canopy making a big tear.

That made me laugh.

I would have had to walk away if id been there.

I thought we were talking about pole tips up or down with apex grommets, how do bikes & planes factor in to it, should I re-think my stance & take into account how many times my ice cream has fallen off it's cone?
As there is risk of that happening too. :confuseded:

After seeing that happen, should I never use a carbon pole again. Or a cuben duomid. Or use a pole handle up? Hmm. ;)

Your anecdote confirms that minimising the risks of a tent puncturing incident is always a good idea.

Speaking as someone who shattered two GG poles one blustery day, I can only say I'm glad I was also carrying my trusty Easton Aluminium tipi pole to ensure my hex3 was sturdily erected no matter what.

I prefer as much as possible to mitigate risk. Your more likely to damage a shelter with a pointy bit o
f tungsten than a foam handle. Your also more likely to shatter a carbon pole than an aluminium one. Carbon are lighter so it's a balance of priorities, but a trekking pole weighs the same whichever end is up. I prefer point down just in case, agree that makes a looser connection to the fly so again a balance of priorities. Each to her/his own.

I'd never seen this stuff before (not actually in asda/food shops very often) but I came across it today.

I've used this for a couple of years since el put me onto it.
At 1200 calories a pop it's great - it powered my TGO last year and backpacks in Andalucia.
The Chocolate, for me is the worst of them as it is too sweet.
Not something Charlie will struggle with.....

i got mine from Asda in Brighton, but not seen it around Cornwall where we live now.

It was marked as "new" in Aberdeen asda

Anyone tried the Marmite PB yet?

Had some the other night, it was really nice

I'm a Marmite middler, don't mind it at all, don't love nor hate it. Have some Marmite in the cupboard but rarely have it. But I'm a huge PB fan (and I've also tried the fuel 10k PB in the pouch, nice but quite mouth drying to eat)

Anyway the marmite PB was really good, slightly more PB than marmite in the flavour which for my taste was spot on. Very delicious, recommended

Thanks mate

I'll add it to the shopping list again and ask her not to scrub it out this time :)

View attachment 24680 I was going to try this but didn’t :stop:

Finish food is usually better than Carribean. They do some great trail snacks. ;
