And here's something completely different. Polish prog rock. You might have been forgiven for not knowing such a thing existed. You might wish you still didn't...

How about some Finnish prog rock... I even have a few LPs by Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti...

Nice find. I don't know much about reggae, but I've started to add to my collection in the last couple of years. This fits into the style I like. Good luck with your deadline.

Here's one back to you, later covered by Dawn Penn

Deadlines all met, thanks. World peace is assured till at least Monday teatime. Perhaps even longer if the biscuits are good.

And thanks for the Jackie Mittoo. I didn't recognize his name but I see he was one of the Skatalites. Rock Fort Rock would make it to the desert island with me. Or maybe I'd choose Wood and Water instead? Hmm, got to take some Toots and the Maytals too... Eight discs is not enough!

Okay, we've prog rock from Finland and Poland. No great surprise, it was a worldwide trend and remained popular in the Eastern Bloc long after it faded in the West. But how about Polish Britpop? Isn't that oxymoronic?

Also kind of relates to Chiseller's Tennessee **** in that's "real life". We don't seem to have spoiler tags on this forum that I could hide the lyrics behind, so I'll just give you my translation of the second verse as a sample:
In the evenings the lads come out on the street
Because in the evenings you can't see the greyness
You can't see the dirt and the street lights don't work
And you could even pretend you could maybe go for a walk

Well, my mate did a Finnish Britpop album, which is so rare I had to upload a video for it since it wasn't listenable online.

I recently discovered that what I've always thought of a Talking Heads song, Take Me to the River, is actually a cover (by numerous people) of an original by, slightly unexpectedly, Al Green:

Split Enz are a band that completely passed me by.
Okay, let's go to the other end of the spectrum and not just in wavelength:

Split Enz are a band that completely passed me by
Split Enz plus for a taster -The Mutton Birds, the Datsuns, Dave Dobbyn (or not- @oreocereus ?) , Nadia Reid, Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding, Ozzie Neilo Finn ....there's a world of sweet pleasure across the ditch and it's not just scenery. Carry a bit of the place with me everywhere I go.

It's time for this thread to get seasonal; let the hills ring out for Christmas!
There was a group of children lined up outside the supermarket yesterday, with a couple of adults behind and one in front, arms aloft. The kids were bedecked with santa hats and reindeer antlers. It was obvious what was about to happen. On a signal from the conductor, the choir burst into:
Thank trek it isn't Christmas every day!
