Wanted Bear Canister

Hello
Bit of a long shot but worth a a try....Anyone hiked in a US and come back with a bear canister now gathering dust?? (Ideally a BV500 as this seems to be the one most recommended/ used)
Because I don't need it from the start I will probably buy one out there. but just in case someone has something going cheap I thought I would enquire! Would be good also to see how it packs.
Thank you
Neil

Hi Neil
I'm sure it has been mentioned on here before that you can hire them? Sure someone will pop along soon to confirm this .

Thanks Diddi - I'm doing the Sierra section of the PCT - I read they did a hire option but this seemed to be for northbounders from Grumpy Bears in Kennedy meadows (I'm going southbound and when I asked if they knew of a similar scheme going the other way they didn't).
I think some parks also hire canisters but not sure because of the route and length of time I have whether the hire option is viable.....
However, if I can hire (south lake tahoe to lone pine) its certainly something I would consider if it was an option!
Thanks again
Neil

Bearikade and others rent.
Best reserve relatively early.
I can get around 8 days food into a Bearikade Weekender (but am not a big eater).
That PCT section is great; when are you going - it can be super buggy at times?

Thanks edh, I'll email them to get some more info.
I am going the end of this month so hike will be most of Sept - hopefully not too many bugs left at that time....????

Should be clear of bugs. September is a great month for the Sierra, should be relatively quiet.
