@slovhike I've been contemplating getting a hand/extra head torch like a zebralight H600w Mk IV 18650 XHP35 for long range trail finding. I could use it in my hand as well as a back up.
My petzl reactik+ throws good light where I need it underfoot and in front.

For tights , I'm getting on well with the skins A400 genesis tights. They seem to work well at regulating and compressing.
I've got the OMM Kamleika shorts to test out over them for wind and rain.
Otherwise I just throw some lightly meshed old Salomon...comfy and ORANGE lol

I’ve heard a few folk say that a hand held torch helps highlight undulations, sticky up bits and trips hazards better that a head torch, shadows are better defined.

Makes sense but I’ve not tested it, I don’t run or do a great deal of night walking.

The dual throw fr9m the reactik does very well at highlighting the hazards and if ascending I want my hands on my poles if pushing hard. If not my hands would be on my thighs and my head looking only a few feet in front ;)

Quote looking forward to explaining these to the missus.... And of course, putting them. To the test.
New range from. Inov8.
Here is the link to lead you forward. These will be an excellent crossover piece of kit.... Or should be....

The 275’s look nice

Still got my almost dead 295’s to finish off, a half worn pair of Mutants and an unworn pair of Cascadia’s to go at yet :)

Ive never worn out a sole on the old inov8s. Body has let go long before the sole so jury still out for me.
I get a couple of holes in the upper, usually at creases, then when the midsole is past best I retire to everyday use until the sole is flat. My last pair of roclite 280s have just been retired. I'll try and remember a pic later.

Finished Edale to Marsden in my Icebug Mist yesterday... Performed faultlessly again. My calves are tight this morning though.
Its been the furthest I've worn them and forgot they are very low drop.
It's a pleasure getting my feet wet in these, as I know it's not long before they dry if stretches of the trail permit it.
Grip is outstanding on the wet rock, acceptable trade off in the big is that they are not the best on sloping wet peat, but it's a low price for the underfoot, toe, protection they provide on mostly stoney ground.

Relating to my above post... I wore the same pair of socks over the two days... Drymax.
DRYLTRSQC-2T.jpg
I've covered hundreds of miles in these socks now.... Ran, hiked, worked...hot, cold, dry, wet weather... yet they're still going strong.
I can't recommend trying them enough.
I've used them with Gurney Goo on a 55mile ultra and without on lesser days. This is another good product and I can testify, my feet looked and felt alot better than other competitors on that day.
They also work well with a Vagsil type cream that helps maintain foot health and keep trench foot at bay.
Size and colours vary in availability as there are very few UK stockists and I bought mine from Hong Kong as it was free shipping with my combined purchases.
Ultramarathonrunningstore (no affiliation) stock the widest range. *NOTE prices are +vat
I'll be buying the hyperthin for this summer.

Just got my Drymax... It says..

... but you've found them OK doing that with the Goo?

I guess 'gumming up' is what they are concerned with....

I've not had a halo jacket, so I can't vouch for its attributes, I can vouch for the 37.5 material of the kamleika. I'm very happy with its waterproof qualities and as happy as I could expect in the breathability department.
Where the kamleika really shine is the stretch and softness, yet very resiliant.

I really like my Kamleika waterproof pants. Very quiet and very waterproof. They are even nice to wear over shorts because they are relatively soft and flexible. I think I've said before that water runs off them so well that they'll fill up your shoes if you don't take steps to avoid it, like wearing gaiters. Fine with boots if you wear them pulled down over the tops.

These should be a good crossover bit of kit...
DRYMAX Winter running socks. Packed with features and have great reviews.... Think I'll keep the claws just for running. Bought these to get used to them before I run the Cheviots in a couple of months....

@Chiseller do you use hand torch for extra light on the trail? Have been using headlamp and added handheld and it works great when you want more detail underfoot.
For when its very cold I've been running with powerstretch tights and they are great. Now I have 3/4 powerdry tights and add knee lenght ski socks and its great and adaptable if it gets to steamy (easy to pull the sock to the ankle) Over the tights I wear hiking shorts without any mesh liner
Fastpacking last week, I wore my reactik on my chest... Worked a treat.
I didn't feel the need to use a head torch. I will be experimenting further these coming nights.

Only disadvantage was when I was pushing off my thighs, cast shadows but it's a learning curve.
Definitely an improvement on testy terrain.
I'll try the zebra the same way and in vertical fastening aswell...

I like my Olite Baton torch clipped to the shoulder strap so I can remove it quickly for tricky bits and spotting animals in the bush during the dark. The metal clip locks it well on. Also sometimes use a smaller hand torch with 1-2mm elastic through the eyelet attached to my wrist so when not in use it sits taut aginst my skin under my clothing.
Also can I ask "What about some very light undies recommendations for fast moving/crossover? " Not a fan of boxers though. Something in the 'brief' style/line of things. I only seem to come up with boxers everywhere I look. Shorts wearer almost all of the year. Anything really working?

@Lamont-Cranston I used to use arc'teryx phase sl brief.
They're discontinued now and hard to find.
I've moved on to saxx and salomon boxers now so not much use to you. Sorry
I have a really old version of these... In all cotton without the windpouch.

The bloody price is just stopping me.

On a crossover, but cycling, has anyone ever worn UVF50 sun leggings that sit under your shorts but not cover the groin? Would like to try some for summer under my Under Armour 5inch Launch shorts, but again a small fortune to try.
p.s. Is that thing really called a windpouch?
