:(
I have 1,020 photos on Flickr. At $50 per year for pro membership, I'll be deleting 20 photos and looking for a new way to share photos.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems unfair for companies to get people to sign up under one set of conditions and then change the rules. As with Photobucket, some people are going to find that they've wasted a lot of time and effort.
I felt exactly the same, together with constant requests for monies I deleted my account.
Looks like YouTube are about to do the same.

I only use Flickr as a way of posting photos on here, hence I'm reluctant to pay $50 a year.

This is me too. WordPress only gives 3GB of free storage on basic plans so I relied on Flikr for storing my used photos. I have to go through and delete 200 at this point which is probably okay as I find I only use about half of the photos I've uploaded in the end.

Has anyone done the upgrade?
I keep getting send round in circles when I try.

No, I went through and deleted all the photos I don't use for my blog since that is all I used Flikr for. Since I have four Yahoo email accounts I will just log in under another one and open a new Flikr account

Sneaky :)
I was quite pleased when I used IMGBB, suggested by Paul, above. There's no guarantee they won't go the same route, though.

Does Google charge for photo storage? Reading some of the posts on the Flickr forums they quote Google at $100 for 2TB, Apple $120 and DropBox $150

Not sure I can be bothered moving again, the last fiasco from Photobucket was bad enough.

I'm not moving, I like Flickr and will upgrade. The new owners aren't mega powerful corporate giants like Verizon and Yahoo etc, but a family business with an interest in photography. FWIW, I think it's a good move and should improve the site. Lots of people stopped using Flickr when they went free, as folk were using it as a free backup and the average quality of photos suffered.

They are still committed to allowing 1000 photos to be stored for free, with no quality limits. I don't think it's too shabby TBH. Unlimited jpeg storage for $50/year seems pretty reasonable to me.

I get three options, Flickr Free, Annual Plan or Monthly Plan

Clicking on Annual takes me to the payment page

When's the switch off date again, is it Jan 1st?

Paul said Feb in 1st post. I can't remember, not fussed anyway as I'm currently culling to get ready for it.

Yes and no.

So you have a 15GB allowance for no extra payement ( just your soul but that is standard). That includes what you store in emails and drive. But in google photos, pics up to 16MP are unlimited ( you can set it up up so that it uploads stuff to that size, or or can upload original size and if its bigger it counts as part of your allowance).

If you need more storage you pay 16 quid a year for 100GB or 80quid for 1T. There are monthly plans with more storage ( and more money).
A year of photos I actually want to store is like 2GB ( the rest I wont mind if I loose) so I am fairly happy paying nothing or 16 pounds a year.

I'm kinda fed up with Flickr's policy to change policies every year or so. I've been using it since 2009 and along with the numerous redesign failures there have been so many membership changes I have lost count. With a little over 3000 images on my account I think I will have to consider my options now.

What's it like for sharing photos on here? Can you get a BBcode?
