Arc lighter?

There would have been a reason last night where your link might have seemed pertinent.

I haven't any intention of carrying around a 12700 volt fuel igniter, I'm not a pyromaniac, my pockets aren't that big - my understanding of the link is it relates to how electric transfer systems, carrying enough capacity to power towns etc can arc and cause bush fires.

I'm looking for a fuelless stove lighter - see my link.

Thankyou anyway

I'm sure they will light meths if you are able to get the arc(s) into the meths vapourizing from the surface of the liquid, that would depend on the design of your burner and the warmth of the meths.
I think the sole advantage of this type of lighter is the windproofness.
I will stick to a cheap BIC(ish) lighter... lighter, longer lasting, and waaay cheaper (50x). I go for a bit of redundancy, one in my cook kit, one in my poop kit; at 20p a pop, and just a few grammes, why not?

You thinking the the longer spout will be useful?

If not I can't s any other advantage over a bic
The bic is around 20g so you can carry 3 for the weight of that.

That lighter uses electricity not something that tends to be reliable in the outdoors.

If it's reach your after look around for a twig or blade of grass
Even having a bit of cordage to light will work

Just come back from 3 days in the Rhinogs and my trusted firesteel cannot be trusted anymore.

80 g soya protein, 30 g of dried mushrooms, 20 g dried onions, a small knor sauce packet x 5 (was planned as a 6 day outing) carried for in the end no gain.

Cold packet soup and porridge oats is not a lot of fun after the first day but I did lose 5lb.

Power bank carried so saw this as an option, isn't it strange how sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious when you're on a train of thought. A bic it will be then but im going to hunt for one of those that is lighter.

Always carry a couple of the small bics

Prefer the flint type ones as even if they're out of fuel I can still usually light my gas burner with the spark.

Have had the flint break up on a well used one before now, so I now carry 2 cause it sucks ass having to eat cold soaked food that doesn't rehydrate properly cold

Actually, just checked my new mini bic comes in at 12g

Having a couple as spares makes sense

Not that I've ever gone out and completely forgotten ALL my lighters of course :bag:

The worst thing about Greece is all the smokers, until you're hungry and don't have a lighter.....:whistling:

I do the same...one in my cook kit and one in my FAK.

I carry a box of matches in a plastic bag as a back up. Never weighed them, but can’t weigh much!

Tried to make a coffee in the morning but it wasn't having it then either.

It is a new tin bought from somewhere. Possibly all meths is not equal because the last lot was no trouble at all, in probably worse conditions than I had this week.

I use these too:rolleyeses: have done for years. The electronic ignition very very rarely fails and torch pretty good on them.

When you say"new tin" where and what country did you buy it from. Most, if not all methylated spirits is sold in plastic bottles and containers in the UK.

Might have been B&Q - Running low and picked it up. Big 5 litre thing.

Since posting I've remembered an overnight stay, on a job in Chesterfield (couple of months ago), in the back of the van - it wouldn't light then but because the van is full of 'everything' matches were to hand
